After a long day we normally hardly wait for a good night sleep. We think that we are tired enough to fall asleep as soon as our head touches the pillow. Or we are not? A lot of things can cause sleeping troubles but we need to talk about one of the most hidden reasons.

Sleeping Troubles

There are completely healthy and active people who are more tired when they wake up than when they went to bed. Weariness can be chased away by a hot shower or a strong coffee. But most of these people also complain about head, neck and shoulder ache, not to mention the numb spine and arms. What to do? People have no idea what their problem is espacially if the doctor can not find anything either. Let’s see the reasons of the sleeping and waking troubles.

With clenched teeth

Teeth grinding and clentching is called Bruxism. Most people can not even imatate what they regularly do at night with their jaws therefore this problem mostly remains hidden. You can grind your teeth only when you move your jaws while the teeth are pressed against one another. So we can talk about pressure with movement and without movement. This pressure can be kept up for 45 min. sometimes! 2 out of 10 people presses their teeth against one another with much more pressure then they would do it in the daytime. It was demonstrated in the 40’s that for chewing a bite of food our teeth touch only for 0,2 sec.! So clenching and grinding means a huge stress (and the only stress)for the teeth in our modern world.
The dentists of Goeteborg University examined 29 persons for five years and had a close look at their behaviour, social connections and anything that could be interesting in medical researches. Data showed without question that morning and dayly problems are in close connection with the abnormal jaw movements and teeth grinding. Moreover for those who grinded their teeth the signs of social and physical problems started to show. Most of them suffered from sleeping troubles and pains and 55% of them had these symptoms every day. 86% complained about regular neck and backache and nearly half of them woke up with headache and jaw pains. The connection between behaviour and syptoms are very clear so the question arises: Why do we do this tireing, tooth demageing action at night?
